iPhone 5 To Receive Spec Bump In September – New iPhone 6 In 2012

iPhone 5 To Receive Spec Bump In September – New iPhone 6 In 2012

There's been a new report in today from Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In the past Ming-Chi Kuo has been very accurate with his reports and if you read it, it does make sense.

It supports earlier rumors that the iPhone5 will go into production in September. His report also states that the iPhone 5 will for the most part, be identical to the iPhone 4. It will just be a few internal changes which will set it apart.

Kuo has heard from his well informed sources in the supply chain that the A5 processor will be in the iPhone 5, which we already knew was pretty certain. He also reports that a better 8 megapixel camera will be coming, something else we already reckoned that was set to find its way into the next gen iPhone.

He has also been told that Apple will switch to a Qualcomm baseband for both GSM and CDMA models, along with an improved antenna design.

All of these suggestions make sense, and all collaborate with the previous rumors we've reported on.

What's interesting is what he has to say about release dates.

Kuo has been told that the new iPhone will go into trial production in August and mass production in September. With an estimated run of 28 million and 32 million units this year.

The thing that sticks out from this report is that Kuo still believes that Apple will announce the iPhone 5 at WWDC, even though it's a good 3 months before the iPhone 5 is expected to be put into production.

He suggests that the main selling point of the iPhone 5 will be the revamped iOS 5, although the new operating system will more than likely support the older iPhone 4 as well.

There's one final last piece of information from Kuo. He claims that Apple are still planning on introducing a new iPhone 6 in the first half of 2012, probably at WWDC 2012, which will be a significant redesign and more than just a spec boost. Even though Apple are planning on releasing the iPhone 5 later than expected, he reckons this is the plan Apple are following.

Whether or not these claims are true remain to be seen, but as I mentioned earlier, Kuo does have a reputation for getting things right.

How does this all sound to you?
